About Oriane Lee

Oriane Lee's current lifework has found a convergence of her truest personal and professional interests; paradigm-shifting education & social change, a love affair with horses, and life-long spiritual practice. Originally a fibre artist and teaching/retail studio owner, the metaphor of weaving the threads of your life, work and world into one vibrant multi-dimensional tapestry continues today.

Oriane Lee was Program Director for Hollyhock Centre from 1990 to 2005, Canada’s Leading Educational Retreat Centre on Cortes Island, B.C., as it evolved from a "holiday that heals" retreat to an internationally significant gathering place serving nearly 3000 learners in a season. She served on the Board of Directors, and the marketing team, facilitated programs including Creating Your Own Learning Centre and Producing a Successful Program, and co-convened the International Gatherings of Holistic Centres.

Oriane Lee forged strategic partnerships with other values-aligned enterprises like Shambhala Sun magazine, Spirituality & Health magazine, Sounds True Recordings, Simon Fraser University Writing & Publishing Dept., University of British Columbia Continuing Studies, and Coast Mountain Expeditions. On behalf of Hollyhock she formed relationships with luminaries of our time; Eckhart Tolle, Andrew Weil, Natalie Goldberg, Ram Das and others. Always mindful of "Canadian content", included Canadian arts & culture icons Margie Gillis, Ann Mortifee, Sharon Butala, Jane Siberry, Nick Bantok, Toni Onley. Supporting and launching new program presenters remains an important value.

Her own participation in these programs formed a deep understanding of the underpinnings of human and global change and transformation. An organic evolution that set the stage for new paradigm leadership in her current life work. More about Oriane Lee & Hollyhock...

A founding parent of Linnaea Alternative School, on Cortes Island, Oriane Lee was also involved in the inception of the Ecological Gardening Apprenticeship Program at Linnaea Farm. It was this dichotomy between the earth gardeners, educators and activists at Linnaea and the more introspective human potential seekers in the early years at Hollyhock that ignited her mission to bridge these two worlds.

Contemplative

Meditation retreats in Burma brought a deeper sense of how to hold North American centres as sanctuaries of insight, wisdom and transformation, both personal and cultural. She initiated and participated in the first North American two year Spiritual Guidance Training Program, with Thomas Atum O’Kane at Hollyhock, followed by the graduate program Alchemy: Guiding Individuals & Organizations through Change.

Producing the compelling Compassion in Action conferences, with Mirabai Bush of Center for Contemplative Mind in Society, marked a shift in Oriane Lee’s professional orientation; the applications of spiritual practice to secular life and work in the world.

Wisdom in the Tarot & Qabalah, was Oriane Lee's introduction to the inner life, almost thirty years ago. This frame of reference for understanding human consciousness and how the divine spark grows to take form in the physical world has been the underpinning of her creative adult life. Learn more...

Her more recent meditation experience with Reggie Ray and Tami Simon of DharmaOcean Foundation has deepened her engagement with the world, and with the primordial universe.

Horses

A trail ride in Ecuador in mid-life initiated a compelling draw to horses. Oriane Lee began studying Natural Horsemanship with Jonathan Field, one of Canada’s premier horsemen. The trails of Cortes Island provided the map for learning. In 2004 she received the book Tao of Equus by Linda Kohanov, and began training in Equine Experiential Learning. She now brings horse wisdom to individuals and small groups, working with several farm sanctuaries on the southern coast of B.C.

Oriane Lee has found that partnering with horses liberates the imagination ~ in 2010 she spent two months volunteering with rescue horses on the coast of Mozambique in Africa, followed by a wildlife safari on horseback, in the Hwange wilderness of Zimbabwe. In Spring/Summer 2011 she returns to Africa as an eco-equestrian volunteer and for more adventuring. Read more about Oriane Lee & horses...

Lotus, the Flower of Enlightenment

“Oriane Lee is a gifted mid-wife for your vision and creativity. She understands the themes, longings and questions arising within the culture. She skillfully guides you toward the forms of engagement that match your intention and nature with successful ways of touching people. I especially value her integrity and discernment in unmasking one’s limiting assumptions, allowing unforeseen possibilities to actually come into being. This kind of clarity has been a liberating factor in defining my teaching and work in the world. Oriane Lee’s generosity and wisdom continue to support my vocational dreams as they come to fruition.”
